MIB, Moose Lake/Willow River, Grand Rapids football drop state quarterfinals

The Minnesota State High School football tournament kicked off on Thursday.
In Class 9-Man seventh seeded Mountain Iron-Buhl fell to sixth seeded Fertile-Beltrami 44-22 at Grand Rapids High School. Quarterback Asher Zubich ran in one touchdown and threw the Rangers’ next two. They close out their season 9-2.
In Class AA, seventh seeded Moose Lake/Willow River suffered a close 14-6 loss to number six West Central Area/Ashby at Brainerd High School. Logan Orvedahl brought in the Rebels’ sole touchdown late in the fourth quarter. They finish their season 8-1.
In Class AAAA, number seven Grand Rapids couldn’t hold off sixth seeded Orono who earned the 22-19 win at Osseo High School. The Thunderhawks held the lead until the last 1:30 of the game when Orono scored the game-winning touchdown. Owen Glenn scored two touchdowns and Jack Cleveland one for Grand Rapids. They close out their season 8-3.
