Minnesota man dies in Iron Co. hunting accident
A Minnesota man is dead after a hunting accident in Iron County, Wisconsin.
The accident happened in the Town of Saxon on Tuesday afternoon. Iron County Sheriff Sheriff Paul Samardich says a person called 911 at about 4:30 p.m. to report that a man was seriously injured after an accidental discharge of a firearm.
Despite resuscitation efforts at the scene, the coroner pronounced the 65-year-old man dead of a gunshot wound at the scene.
The man’s name and hometown have not yet been released. The sheriff’s office continues to investigate.
Iron County sheriff’s deputies, Saxon/Gurney first responders, Beacon Ambulance, Wisconsin State, and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources wardens responded to the scene.
The DNR has reported that three hunters were injured in other parts of the state on opening weekend of the gun deer hunt.
