Poacher leaves bull moose carcass under tree stump

Conservation officers are looking for the poacher who killed a bull moose in northwestern Ontario and left it under a tree stump and root to waste.

The Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry says the moose was killed sometime between November 1 and 11 off of Highway 642, near Tower Road, between Sioux Lookout and Silver Dollar. A photo of the scene shows a hole under the stump of trees that had been cut down.

"MNDMNRF Conservation Officers continue to patrol and protect our natural resources and would like to remind everyone that respecting seasons, sanctuaries, bag and possession limits we all help ensure our natural resources stay healthy," a news release said.

The ministry is asking for tips from the public to identify who is responsible. People with information can call the MNRF Tips line at 1-877-847-7667 or, to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
