Iron Range Meals on a Mission is still going strong. But now they are focusing on helping families with back to school time.
They’ve organized a Back to School BBQ and Backpack Giveaway. They have about 240 backpacks that will be filled with school supplies.
Koneta Andrew, a co-admin in the meals group, said, "I had to put a spreadsheet together to keep track of everything. It was overwhelming the amount of people who were donating. I’m an empty nester, but thinking back to those days, that was kind of a struggle."
The supplies are filling up Lori Edstrom’s porch in Virginia. "It’s getting bigger than we thought. With donations of food to serve at the BBQ." She told us that they’ve done close to 6000 meals since February.
You have until Tuesday, the 20th to sign up. Reach out to Lori Edstrom or Koneta Andrew on Facebook to sign up.
To sign up for a backpack, you need to include your child’s name, sex, age, grade and school. You may list more than 1 child, just post the same info on top of each other in same bubble. You do not need last names. But you do need to be from the Range.
You do need to be at the BBQ to get your backpack.
It’s Saturday, August 21st, from 12-5pm at the West Two River Reservoir in Mt. Iron.
