Severe weather expected this afternoon and evening
After a first round of widespread thunderstorms came through the region this morning, strong storms will once again push through the Northland this evening. Isolated tornadoes, large hail and damaging winds are possible, especially in Northwestern Wisconsin. The timeframe with the best chance for severe thunderstorms in our region is from 5 pm to 8 pm.
Southern Douglas, Bayfield, Ashland, Iron as well as Burnett, Washburn and Price Counties are in an area of enhanced risk of destructive storms this evening.
The greatest risk will be widespread wind damage as gusts approach 75 mph and very large hail up to baseball size at 2.75”. Localized flooding will also be possible and tornado development cannot be ruled out.
Conditions will improve from the northwest with a line from near Siren to Hayward as the last area to see relief from any storms that develop.
Severe storms should exit the Northland by around 11 pm. If you have pictures or video of the storms, please email weather@wdio.com. or share on the WDIO social media pages.
