Four top public safety officials in Superior and Douglas County took on a new type of public service Thursday.
Sheriff Tom Dalbec, Police Chief Nick Alexander, Fire Chief Scott Gordon, and Douglas County District Attorney Mark Freuhauf served lunch at The Kitchen restaurant to raise money for Toys for Toys. All of the tips went to the charity.
"The public the people have been coming have just been very generous with their tips, so I think we’re going to have a great year to support Toys for Tots. The fire chief told me there’s already 600 kids or families registered for it, so there’s definitely a need and this will be a good boost for the program," Alexander said.
Alexander thanked restaurant owners Teresa and Ed Flood for hosting the event, which drew a crowd by offering a $12 prime rib meal.
The event raised $2,800 for Toys for Tots, which organizers say is a new record.
