The Bong Veterans Historical Center receives huge donation that will help fund its Boundary Water trips
The Cenovus Superior Refinery donated $10, 000 dollars to The Bong Veterans Historical Center. The contribution will help fund the center's next two boundary waters canoe trip in support of veterans mental health.[WDIO ]
On Wednesday, The Cenovus Superior Refinery donated $10, 000 dollars to the bong Veterans Historical Center. The contribution will help fund the center’s next two boundary waters canoe trip in support of veterans’ mental health.
The Bong Center executive director Dustin Heckman said “the canoe trips are a great opportunity for us to assist veterans who can face unique challenges. Veterans give so much to our local communicates and we want to do our part to give back to them as well.”
Veteran Duane Lasley mentioned one of the big focal points that this trip reminds the participants about. "They’re freely interacting and having fun, and no one is alone. That’s the big thing! When you get out of the service, when you’re separated, there’s no support network out there. And this kind of brings veterans together to show that their not alone, there are others out there." Lasley has been on 5 out of 6 boundary water trips.
Established in 2018, the trips offers veterans with PTSD and other traumas the chance to relax and get away from the reality of life. The week long trips includes fishing, canoeing, and camping with fellow veterans.
