Three facing charges after one pound of fentanyl seized
According to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, three people were arrested after a traffic stop and search uncovered 1 pound of suspected fentanyl and evidence of illegal marijuana.
The vehicle was traveling from Chicago to the Iron Range, and the traffic stop happened along Highway 53 in Ellsburg Township around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Sheriff’s deputies say there was an ongoing investigation surrounding one of the individuals, which led to the stop. He was found to be driving a company-owned vehicle registered to "We Dat Rentals," a local business that he owns and operates in the Hibbing and Chisholm area. He now faces pending charges of first degree sale of a controlled substance and importing across state borders.
The other two people were arrested on pending charges of controlled substance sales and possession.
All three are currently in the St. Louis County Jail.
Lake Superior Violent Offender Task Force (LSVOTF) investigators were involved. That is the new title recently assigned to the unit that was formerly known as the Lake Superior Drug and Violent Crime Task Force.
The Eveleth Police Department and Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension also assisted.
