Tropical Storm Elsa soaks Florida, Georgia; at least 1 dead
SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) – A weakened but resilient Tropical Storm Elsa is dumping rain across northern Florida and southern Georgia. Officials blame the storm for one death near the state line. Elsa made landfall Wednesday morning on Florida’s Gulf Coast with 65 mph winds, but began weakening as it churned toward Georgia.
One person was killed in Jacksonville, Florida, when a tree fell onto a car amid heavy rains from the storm.
The coasts of Georgia and South Carolina were under a tropical storm warning Wednesday evening.
The National Hurricane Center extended a tropical storm watch up the East Coast to Massachusetts.
