Rugby sevens has been an Olympic sport for the past six years, a professional American sport for five seasons, and played all around the U.S in both male and female levels.
On Saturday the Twin Ports Ice Monkey Rugby Club hosted it’s first leg of the Minnesota Sevens Summer Rugby Series.
"Six of the teams all share these legs, and then we invite whoever else would like to come on a pretty continuous basis. It is a way to grow the game, improve our skills, get new people exposed and try new things in a more social format. We are playing to win, but at the same time we get to see the same faces again and build a community. The winner one week isn’t going to be the winner next week, so it is a really nice system," said Tournament Director Greg White.
A total of 16 matches where played on Saturday. The teams in attendance where from Duluth, Superior, St.Paul, Eagan, Fargo, Mankato, and Rochester.
