Saturday marked UMD’s ninth-annual farm fest today! Showcasing the team’s goal of creating a food system that meets the needs of all residents.
The fest showcased the school’s land lab as a community and academic resource. The event also featured live music from a band, the maker’s market, and games!
Paxton Zirpel, one of the organizers says, "It’s really just to bring everyone out and celebrate our harvest season with us and the past growing season. It’s a great way for people to get out and meet local vendors, local businesses in Duluth and just to immerse themselves in our local farm here.”
For the Land Lab it’s amazing to see how the produce effects the community, “[to] see our food systems and stuff, and see all the work that goes into actually putting food on the table, and putting fresh fruits and vegetables on people’s tables and putting them in stores in stuff".
Money raised will go towards undergraduate research opportunities and produce distribution in the community.
The land lab will hold its last public event of the season on Monday, where they will be giving up free produce from 4pm to 6pm at Morgan Park.
