UMD mens basketball stays perfect in NSIC opener, women fall to St. Cloud

The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) men’s basketball team downed St. Cloud State University (SCSU) Tuesday to stay perfect on the season, while the Bulldog women sufferd a close loss to the Huskies.

The matches marked the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) openers for both programs.

The UMD men downed SCSU 86-69 to improve to 5-0 so far on the season. Austin Andrews led the charge tallying 32 points and 10 rebounds, with four other Bulldogs contributing points in the double digits. They’re back in action Saturday visiting Michigan Technological University at 1pm.

Meanwhile the No. 14 UMD women suffered a close 60-54 loss to St. Cloud in their regular season home opener. Brooke Olson led the team scoring 22 points. The Bulldogs (2-2) will next host Northern Michigan University on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 2pm.
