UMD’s Noah Cates earns NCHC Preseason All-Conference team selection

University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) men’s hockey senior Noah Cates was named to the National Collegiate Hockey Conference’s (NCHC) Preseason All-Conference Team on Tuesday.

This marks the second straight season the forward has earned the distinction. Receiving 18 votes, Cates is among seven named to the team, and only sits behind St. Cloud State University’s (SCSU) Veeti Miettinen in total votes with 22.

Cates is also tabbed to lead as the team captain for his second straight season. Last season the Stillwater native tallied five goals and 14 assists, helping lead UMD to the NCAA Frozen Four.

The Bulldogs will open their regular season on the road at Bemidji State Univeristy on October 8.

UMD also announced on Tuesday they have picked up an exhibition match against the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Puck drop is set for October 3 at Chippewa Falls Ice Arena.
