Up North: Chester Bowl Field Undergoes ‘Ultimate’ Restoration

The Chester Bowl field has been used by a variety of groups in the community for years. On Sunday morning, a group of local ultimate frisbee players gathered to repair the beloved field.

Cedar Corey-Flatau currently plays ultimate frisbee but has fond memories of playing soccer on the same field as a child.

"I remember once in the rain, we were all huddled under an umbrella, but they still let us play. And just slosh through these huge mud puddles because of the holes, and they are still here today."

Holes, uneven ground, and hard rocks were all hazards at Chester Bowl field. These issues were all repaired just in time for fall league.

The Duluth Ultimate Frisbee Fall League will take place on Mondays, starting September 13th. The league has been using this field for years and was happy to help improve it. The City of Duluth supplied the tools, dirt, and materials, the Chester Bowl Improvement Club helped with the planning, and almost every volunteer present was part of Duluth Ultimate Frisbee.

The field is also used by Arrowhead Youth Soccer, as well as by the community for a variety of events throughout the year. Duluth Ultimate Community Board Treasurer Kyle Anderson enjoyed helping the community and hopes to have more opportunities in the future.

"There’s a ton of enthusiasm with the project,” Anderson said. “I have no doubt that if we wanted to do more days like this, we could definitely get more people out here."
