Woman dies in Cook County crash

Cook County authorities say a 79-year-old woman died in a crash Tuesday afternoon. Her car hit a tree.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, she was heading east on Hwy 61 when she turned left onto County Road 14, crossed that road and hit a pine tree.

The Cook County Sheriff said she was pronounced dead on the scene.

It happened at about 4:15 p.m.

"The cause of the accident and cause of death is under investigation and will be confirmed," a press release said.
