Young girls of YWCA Duluth to benefit from AT&T donation

The YWCA of Duluth got a big surprise on Monday. The organization received a $15,000 foundation grant from AT&T. The money will be used to support the “Girl power!” Program for elementary and middle school girls with limited internet access.

Girl Power! is an afterschool program that serves 3rd through 8th grade girls who face socioeconomic, race, gender and other inequities.

"It’ll be used for all manners of things. It’ll be helping to provide some resources of technology. So for our STEM programming, for other programming that we do. We’ll be able to purchase materials for that as well as resources including transportation”, Meg Litts, Executive Director said.

Girl Power! isn’t the only program that has been a recipient of AT&T generosity. Litts mentions other programs at the YWCA.

”We have been fortunate in the past for all three of our programs: our childcare, our young mothers program and Girl Power! to be the recipient of the generosity of AT&T,” she said.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Girl Power! Program helped bridge the digital gap for many young girls that struggled with staying connected to school due to limited computer and internet access at home. The AT&T foundation grant is a part of the company’s nationwide efforts to bridge the digital gap for youth with limited internet access.
