E-mountain biking at Lester Park
For this week’s bike report, Sabrina Ullman and Ski Hut employee Krista Holden tested out a couple of e-mountain bikes from the Ski Hut Adventure Center rental fleet. Holden says there are various e-bike options for rent at the Adventure Center, from cruiser e-bikes to full-power e-mountain bikes like the Trek Rails.
Trek Rails are full-suspension e-mountain bikes that include four different battery assistance settings. The “Eco” setting uses the least amount of power, the “Tour” setting is the next step up, “E-Mountain Bike” is a step up from there, and “Turbo” is the highest setting.
“You can go for quite a lot of miles on any of these bikes on any mode, but if you’re going for a long ride, or you want to get more of a workout in on the hills, then you would wanna be in the eco mode, or those lower options,” said Holden.
Lester Park has river views along all of the trails. Sabrina and Krista went on the Lester River Trail, a green trail. Using e-mountain bikes made it easier to go up hills without running out of breath. Going downhill, especially over bridges, still offered enough of a challenge for Sabrina to fall by the end of the bike ride.
