Exploring the Duluth Traverse

Mountain biking on the Duluth Traverse

Sabrina Ullman went mountain biking on the Duluth Traverse and managed to make it through without any injuries.

Mountain bikers looking to travel across Duluth can enjoy a scenic path along the Duluth Traverse. At roughly 45 miles, the Duluth Traverse starts at Lester River Park and ends at Chambers Grove Park or Mission Creek trailhead. The trail connects over 100 miles of trail within Duluth.

Sabrina Ullman explored a portion of the Duluth Traverse with Krista Holden, a much more experienced mountain biker. The two traveled the Kingsbury part of the Duluth Traverse, starting at 80th Avenue, and headed towards Spirit Mountain.

“We’re kind of in between where it gets a little bit more technical by Spirit and coming off of a pretty significant downhill in Piedmont, the Keene Creek section,” said Holden. “It’s a great section to do with kids and families and newer mountain bikers, even if you aren’t doing the full Traverse, just coming out and enjoying this section is perfect.”

Holden added that while there are climbs in either direction, the effort is worth it.

“They’re really pretty climbs. So even though you’re huffing and puffing, they’re really fun,” said Holden.
