UW-Superior to host high school singers for Chorfest
More than 90 talented high school singers from 12 Wisconsin and Minnesota schools will be heading to UW-Superior campus for Chorfest, sponsored by the University of Wisconsin-Superior Music Department. The Chorfest High School Honor Choir Festival will be held on Thursday, November 10.
“Chorfest is unique among high school honor festivals because it allows students to perform choral works with an orchestra consisting of some of the best musicians in the Twin Ports,” Michael Fuchs, UW-Superior director of choral activities said in a release from UWS. “This is an opportunity that is not available in many high schools and smaller communities, and we are thrilled to provide an avenue through which students from the region can experience this wonderful music.”
Students will spend the day in rehearsals, taking tours and masterclasses, and working with conductors and clinicians. The students will perform Franz Schubert’s “Mass in G” with members of the Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra.
Chorfest concludes with a public concert featuring high school vocalists along with UW-Superior singers at 7 p.m. in Thorpe Langley Auditorium.
“The concert will feature the Honors Choir and UWS ensembles combining to sing Ryan O’Neal’s poignant and moving piece, ‘North,’” said Fuchs.
Tickets for the performance are $5 adults, $3 seniors and free for students. Thorpe Langley Auditorium is in Old Main, 1710 Weeks Ave.
