Duluth City Council held it’s first meeting of the month on the evening of August 12.

After two packed and tense meetings last month stemming from public safety ordinance amendments, tonight’s meeting was far calmer.

Just three Duluth residents addressed the council, as opposed to the nearly seven dozen at the previous meeting.

During the brief meeting, the council voted on the items on its consent agenda, which included resolutions on collective bargaining with the police union, continued money for on-going lead pipe replacement throughout the city, and a grant to bolster funding for Spirit Mountain. The agenda was passed 8-0 with one council member absent.

Councilors then voted on an ordinance to repeal Section 34-14 of Chapter 34 of the city code relating to false solicitation – false representation of oneself in asking for money. This was originally to be amended in order to modernize language in the code, but instead, councilors decided on a measure to repeal the ordinance entirely This was passed 8-0, with one member absent. This ordinance was one of several that were amended during last month’s meetings. Now that it’s been appealed, it will go into effect in 30 days.
