Duluth City Council to consider renewed funding for Crisis Teams at meeting

Duluth city council is continuing the process of examining the city’s budget for the upcoming year.

At the council’s September 23 meeting, members will look into restoring $600,000 of funding for the HDC crisis response team that was initially cut from the mayor’s initial budget proposal.

The crisis teams are comprised of trained community members who respond to people in a crisis in situations where a law enforcement presence may not be required.

While the funding was initially cut from the budget, several city councilors have been working on ways to restore the funding for the 2025 budget year. The proposal was part of Mayor Roger Reiner’s plan of a leaner city budget as to ease the tax burden on Duluthians.

In a message to the councilors, the mayor did say that he is supportive of finding the money to keep the crisis response team funded.

The City Council meeting will be held at 7p.m. at City Hall.
