As cold weather enters the region, the Salvation Army will be giving away 1,231 winter coats on Thursday and Friday. The coats were donated as part of the Coats 4 Kids drive this year and were then all cleaned by City Laundering Company.
With sizes varying from infant to adult, this giveaway is for all ages.
“It’s not just for kids. I mean, it’s Coats 4 Kids, but we think of kids as more of a broader term, meaning everyone, you know, coats for kids of all ages. So the whole family can get a coat,” said Superior Salvation Army Corps Officer Captain Jasen Elcombe. “Moms, dads, kids, grandmas, grandpas. It doesn’t matter. We want to be able to help anyone stay warm this year.”
There is also a limited supply of hats, gloves, boots, and scarves that will also be given away for free.
Anyone is welcome to stop by the Superior Salvation Army, located at 916 Hughutt Ave, from 10am to 4pm this Thursday and Friday.
If you have a coat that you would like to donate, coats that are gently used or new can be dropped off during this time.
“It’s not about us as individuals. It’s about a community of people supporting helping other people,” said Elcombe. “It’s the people in our area, in the Northland that are giving of themselves their time and their possessions so they can help their neighbors and help them out. And it’s just a great feeling to know that people are willing to do that for others.”
