City of Duluth is looking for election judges for August Primary

The City of Duluth is looking for people to serve as election judges for the upcoming elections. Election judges are trained to handle all aspects of voting at the polling place and are needed for the August 13 Primary as well as the General Election on November 5.

According to City officials, you must be eligible to vote in Minnesota and be able to read, write, and speak English in order to serve as an election judge.

Other Qualifications:

  • Students 16 and 17 years old can be election judge trainees
  • Election judges can choose to be volunteers or be compensated for their service
  • Employers are required to give employees who serve as election judges time off from work without a reduction in pay, with certain qualifications

Relatives cannot serve together in the same precinct at the same time. In addition, relatives of a candidate, and anyone who temporarily or permanently lives in the same house as a candidate, cannot serve in the precinct where the candidate is on the ballot.

According to the City Clerk website, selections of election judges are made by the City Clerk’s Office depending on the needs for each election. They are then approved by the City Council.  There are 34 precincts in Duluth has 34 precincts.  Each precinct is staffed by 4 to 8 election judges.
