Glensheen Mansion hosts Community Day
The Christmas spirit stuck around for a bit longer at the Glensheen Mansion, as they hosted their annual Community Day on January 5th.
Guests were able to go on free, self-guided tours of the historic estate, which was decked out in its “Classic Christmas Tales” theme for the last time this holiday season. Director Dustin Heckman emphasized that this event is Glensheen’s way of giving back to the Duluth community.
“This is the one time of year we offer free admission on all of our classic tours. It’s a thank you to the community for all their support over the last year. So this is a great opportunity for people to come through, experience Glensheen, maybe for the first time and get to see Christmas before we take it all down,” said Heckman.
The Univeristy of Minnesota-Duluth’s art education faculty got in on the festivities, leading a workshop at the end of the tours where guests could make their own keepsake to remember their time at the mansion.
“We had some art activities going on in the basement of the mansion that really, I think, just stepped it up a little bit. It’s been fun to watch people both young and old enjoy making a craft at the end of their tour,” said Heckman.
While the Christmas activities may be on their way out on the 6th, Glensheen will remain open as they switch over to their winter hours. They will now be open Friday through Sunday, from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M.
Glensheen is located at address is 3300 London Rd, Duluth, MN 55804
