Gov. declares state of emergency in northern Wisconsin

After severe winter weather struck much of northeastern Wisconsin, Governor Tony Evers declared a state of emergency on April 1.
Heavy snow, ice, and wind struck the region over the weekend causing damage to homes, and cutting power for thousands.
“As Northern Wisconsin still works to recover from severe weather over the weekend, with more storms on the way tonight, this declaration will help support local efforts to restore power where there are outages, support local efforts to clear debris, set up warming shelters, and respond to local emerging needs, and keep folks, families, and communities safe,” Gov. Evers said in a statement.
The statement went on to say that the administration is in contact with local authorities and utility companies, as power for over 125,000 customers has been restored. Residents without power are asked to reach out to their utility provider to the most current information on power restoration.
While Evers’ office says Wisconsin Emergency Management hadn’t asked for the declaration, further severe weather on the horizon could impact the response to the previous winter storm.
