Man arrested for assault following missing person case

Around 1:00p.m. on Tuesday, Carlton County 9-1-1 received a call that a client from a group home was on an outing in Moose Lake and ran off on foot from a staff member they were with. The client was last seen walking towards Folz Boulevard near the bike trail, however the staff member lost sight of the male. The man, Joshua Lee Bergan was then reported missing.
Carlton County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the location to begin searching for the male.
Other agencies responding to search for the male included the Moose Lake Fire Department,
Moose Lake Police Department, St. Louis County Rescue Squad, Pine County Sheriff’s Office,
Minnesota State Patrol, Carlton County Drone Team, Esko Fire Department, and the Minnesota
DNR.
An extensive search of the area was conducted. Shortly after 7:00pm, Carlton County 9-1-1
received a call from a resident near the 4600 block of West Rd just west of the City of Moose Lake.
Caller reported that a male matching the clothing description of Bergan was in his driveway. Law
Enforcement, Fire, and St. Louis County Rescue responded to the address. Sheriff’s deputies arrived
and were told the man had run off. Bergan was located a short time later near 4660 West Road.
As Carlton County Sheriff’s deputies approached Bergan to speak with him, he charged at deputies
and head-butted one of the deputies attempting to safely take him into custody.

Bergan was arrested for 4th Degree Assault on a Peace Officer and lodged at the Carlton County Jail
