Man injured while hiking on Angleworm Trail near Ely

A 77-year-old man is recuperating after suffering a possible broken ankle while hiking near Ely on Thursday. According to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, first responders and law enforcement from Ely were called out at approximately 7:24 p.m. on a report of an injured hiker on the Angleworm Hiking Trail, located off the Echo Trail north of Ely.

Authorities say the victim was located approximately three quarters of a mile from the trailhead of Angle Worm trail.

The man was carried out by first responders to the trailhead where he was transported to the Ely Bloomenson Community Hospital by ambulance. The exact extent of injury is unknown however they are not believed to be life-threatening.
