The Arena Legacy Fund held fundraising event on Friday called the “Meet and Seat” to support the 2024 Hermantown Arena Facilities expansion project at the Hermantown Hockey Arena.
The goal of the event was to help community members to learn more about the expansion project and meet some of their fellow community members. Many participated in the “Leave your Legacy” campaign, which offers the chance to place a name on an arena seat or wall brick based on donation level.
“It’s pretty cool opportunity to get the community together here and a large group of volunteers helping out, trying to spread the word about the need for financial support for our facility here as we want to make sure that we do this project right as it’s a one time opportunity to, to make sure has the proper resources and amenities to serve our community for a long period of time,” said volunteer Grant Huttle.
Attendees had the opportunity to see a pair of the new arena seats, meet some of the 2023-2024 high school hockey players, enjoy food trucks, participate in open skate and listen to live music by hockey dad, Matt Christy.
The organization hopes to break ground next spring and have the project complete in the fall of 2025.
“I’ve been a volunteer coach here for close to ten years now at the bottom level, and our our youth players are all over the region, really. We’ve played home games in the Metro. We played home games in Two Harbors. Your average Hermantown Youth Practice is going to be eight, nine o’clock at night,” said Huttle. “We just don’t have enough ice to support our our organization here in Hermantown. But just for the greater utilization of our community and our greater area as a whole, there’s just a lack of indoor ice. So definitely a huge demand for indoor ice, and we’re excited about the opportunity to be able to construct a second sheet.”
