For the fifteenth year in a row, local motor cyclists gathered at the Richard I Bong Veterans Historical Center in Superior for a ride to honor those who have served.

Riders began at the Bong Center, rode to Iron River VFW, then R-C’s Decoy Inn in Solon Springs, to Bridge’s Bar and Patty’s Dockside in Lake Nebagamon and then returned to Superior.

The 100-mile ride and event was hosted by the PIGS LGGD, a charity group of bikers that put giving back to the community at the forefront of their lives.

And for many local riders, supporting veterans has become a personal mission.

“Some of our members have served and our veterans themselves. A lot of us have family members that were veterans that serve, some of us have kids that have served,” said Burt Crow, a member of PIGS Charity group.

“We view our veterans as a special class of human beings. They sacrifice more than most people do in a lifetime in a very short time in a lot of instances. They come back and they don’t get the proper care sometimes, they don’t get the support that they need sometimes. So, we feel that we needed to step up and help them where we can. That’s what it’s all about,” said Crow.

Visitors at the event had the chance to meet new people and reconnect with old friends. Over 100 riders came to the Bong Center to participate and beat their previous year’s participation count.

There were also many opportunities to give to the cause, each rider paid to participate in the event and could enter for door prizes and raffle ticket items – to be drawn at the final destination.

“Again, the generosity never ceases to amaze us every year. And we think we’re gonna have a, do you think the economy is gonna make it really hard or covid is gonna make it really hard? And the community has always stepped up and really shown up really well for us. And that encourages us to keep doing this and keep moving forward,” said Crow.

And soon enough, the string of motorcycles rode off, and would return to the Log Cabin Tavern Saturday night to continue the celebration.
