Saturday evening fire in downtown Gilbert

At around 9:30 pm Saturday, a fire was reported in a large apartment home in the 100 block of Broadway St. South in downtown Gilbert. Heavy smoke and flames were coming from the back of the building when firefighters arrived at the scene.

According to the Northland FireWire, one person was treated at the scene for minor burns. No other injuries were reported.

Gilbert, Eveleth, Fayal Township, Biwabik City, Biwabik Township, Lakeland, Mountain Iron, and Virginia Fire departments were all still fighting the fire as of 11 pm. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
