Scrub and fog seals planned for WIS 77 in Ashland County

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is planning a maintenance project for stretch of WIS 77 in Ashland County to tentatively begin the week of August 5. During the project, WIS 77 will be open to through traffic, but a pilot car will guide drivers through the work zone. Drivers are asked to use extra caution, as there could be loose stone chips from the process.

According to a release from WisDOT, maintenance crews from the Ashland County Highway Department plan to scrub seal a 4.6-mile stretch of WIS 77 between Clam Lake and Glidden next week. The scrub seal is tentatively planned for Tuesday, Aug. 6 from Forest Road 347 east to Forest Road 166, with a fog seal following on Thursday, Aug. 8.

WisDOT describes a scrub seal as an application that is very close to a chip seal treatment where asphalt emulsion and crushed rock are placed on an asphalt pavement surface. The asphalt emulsion is applied to the road surface through a series of brooms placed at different angles.

Officials say a fog seal consists of applying an asphalt emulsion onto the pavement surface. For more info visit the region’s 511 website: projects.511wi.gov/region/northwest/
