Split Rock Lighthouse held a special ceremony Friday night to honor the lives lost when the Edmund Fitzgerald broke apart and went down 48 years ago.
As part of the annual ceremony, the Naval Hymn was sung by a quartet. Then, the names of the 29 crew members were read aloud, with a tolling of the ship’s bell after each name.
Afterward, guests had the rare opportunity to see the lighthouse’s beacon lit and view the inside of the tower.
