Post-Production Education with Superior FX
Ever wonder how films and television shows are brought from the film set to the screen?
Well Superior FX, a post-production studio, has been working on educating and building the community up in the area of post-production of film and television. After working in California for 12 years, the company has gotten an office in Duluth to help local productions and education efforts.
William Cox, co-founder of Superior FX, shared with me their hopes and dreams for Superior FX and the community.
“”Anyone who’s interested in learning this stuff is educate them and have them come on to work on projects that we bring in and get them the experience of working on a real project and seeing if that’s something that they want to pursue in the future.”
William has worked on a multitude of big-name projects, from “Wonder Woman,” the first “Captain America” movie, Television shows like “911,” “Mayans Motorcycle Club,” & the new “Ted” series on Peacock (William’s Demo Reel). The studio has also helped local productions, such as the film “Rescuing Christmas” which was shot and made in Duluth in 2023.
“So, the state of Minnesota and the city of Duluth and St. Louis County have some pretty decent tax incentives right now that are stackable as well. You’re not always guaranteed to get them, but it’s always worth applying if you’re an independent filmmaker. And so, there’s been a lot more independent films coming here to take advantage of those tax incentives, to take advantage of scenery, and it helps boost the economy. So, the film “Rescuing Christmas” here created a lot of extra jobs and brought a lot of economy to it.”
Superior FX helped add elements of snow and bring the imagery all together alongside the editors for “Rescuing Christmas” (Rescuing Christmas Opening). The studio hopes to shed some light on the post side of production that has been known to be overlooked by creating seminar and classes. Will said this in closing,
“If anyone is interested in learning more about visual effects, whether it’s just to pick my brain about it or see how we can start the educational process or something like that. If you’re really willing to learn, feel free to contact me. My email is will at will@superior-fx.com”
