The Duluth Entertainment Convention Center (DECC) went to the dogs this weekend, and many traveled to participate in the Duluth Kennel Club’s All Breed Dog Show from July 11th through July 13th.

This event is the largest dog sporting event held in northern Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Nicole Marcil traveled down to the event from Thunder Bay, Canada, searching to add another title under her dog’s name.

“We came down. I came down with my friend Katie, because we like to attend American shows a few times a year to try and get an American Championship on our dogs,” said Marcil.

The event was full of not only different dog breeds, but a wide variety of owners as well. From kids learning the trade, to professional show dog trainers, everyone was welcomed to the show.

“I’ve just been involved with dogs and animals my whole life. And I just had some friends that I knew that were showing dogs. And they kind of got me into it, so I got my first lab about 15 years ago now. And started with him, and then just never stopped,” said Marcil.

Stations were set up throughout DECC’s Pioneer Hall for dogs’ pampering pleasures. Some vendors set their stations along one wall, selling anything needed to spoil owner’s furry friends.

“It’s been really good. The people here are super nice, welcoming, friendly. It’s been a nice little trip down to get away for a bit,” said Marcil.

And with so many dogs in one place, the dog hair was immense.

But in the end, many of the dogs went home winners – with multiple competitions taking place throughout the three-day weekend.

“Archer here did really well. He went winner’s dog the whole weekend. Actually, went best in breed over specials the first day. So, he ended up taking home seven points this weekend. And then my lab that was here picked up the last three points he needed to finish his American Championship,” said Marcil.
