Town of Superior Volunteer Fire Department battles fire at processing facility
The Town of Superior Volunteer Fire Department spent over a dozen hours battling a fire at the Omaha Track Grinding railroad tie processing facility on Monday, July 22. Fire Chief Darryl Fiegle arrived on scene shortly before 4:30 a.m. and discovered a high canopy covered by woods chips smoking at the location.
Firefighters worked in tandem with Omaha Track employees to remove chips from the pile as firefighters wet down the product. Fiegle stated that an estimated 500 cubic yards of material had to be moved and wet down.
The Town of Parkland, Town of Oakland, and Town of Lakeside Fire Departments assisted in the efforts.
The scene was cleared shortly before 7:00 p.m. that evening.
No other property was damaged and no injuries were reported.
