WLSSD celebrates Earth Week with Courtland Street Block Party
As Earth Week continues, the Western Lake Superior Sanitary District (WLSSD) announced it will host a Courtland Street Block Party on Friday, April 26 at the Household Hazardous Waste Facility and the Yard Waste Compost Site. The events run from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
While we all should support the mission of Earth Day every day, WLSSD is taking time this week to do a little extra celebrating with the community.
Household Hazardous Waste Facility Events Include:
- Medication Cabinet Clean-out: Residents can safely dispose of unwanted medications, free of charge.
- Medical sharps disposal
- Drop-off Household paints, stains, cleaners, chemicals, fluorescent bulbs, rechargeable batteries, or other hazardous materials free of charge.
- Shop the free Re-Use center for paints, stains, adhesives, and cleaners.
- Drop-off film plastic for recycling.
- Demonstrations by Atlas Games’ Replay Workshop
- There is an activities tent where you can make DIY cleaning solution, learn about plastic film recycling, challenge yourself with some WLSSD trivia, and win prizes!
Yard Waste Compost Site Events Include:
- Residents can drop off leaves, trimmings, grass clippings free of charge, and brush ($10/cu. yd.).
- Purchase Garden Green compost
- Take a 20-minute “behind-the-scenes” tour of the compost site and learn more about our process: 10 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m.
- There will be an activities tent where you can play games for a chance to win Garden Green swag and get supplies for saving food scraps at home to bring to our residential drop sites!
