Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow on Groundhog Day 2023

It’s Groundhog Day and people woke up early Thursday to learn whether a furry critter in a western Pennsylvania town would predict an early spring or six more weeks of winter.

People gathered Thursday at Gobbler’s Knob as members of Punxsutawney Phil’s “inner circle” summoned him from his tree stump at dawn to learn if he has seen his shadow. According to folklore, if he sees his shadow there will be six more weeks of winter. If he doesn’t, spring comes early.

Punxsutawney Phil did see his shadow shortly before 7:30 A.M. EST so according to his prediction, there will be 6 more weeks of winter.
