10 students struck by “orbeez” gun at recess
No injuries were reported Monday, when ten students were shot at with what police are calling a gel blaster gun.
Around 1:00pm, Hibbing Police Officers were dispatched to Lincoln Elementary School to the report that a group of teens in a vehicle driving by shot at multiple kids on the playground. Police say the gel blaster gun shoots “orbeez.”
Security footage helped officers locate the three teens who are students at Hibbing High School. HPD says possible charges will be sent to the St. Louis County Attorney’s Office once the investigation is complete.
In a statement from Hibbing Police, Chief Steve Estey would like the public to know they “take incidents like this very seriously.”
This article has been changed to reflect new information. An earlier version referred to the “orbeez” gun as an airsoft gun, information provided by Principal Bob Bestul of Lincoln Elementary. That detail has been corrected by police. An airsoft gun was not used in this incident, but rather an “orbeez” gun.
