10 year anniversary of the Germann Road Fire

May 14th, 2023 marks the 10 year anniversary of the Germann Road Fire that started in southern Douglas County and then spread over to Bayfield County.
Around 70 local agencies were involved in battling the blaze. 47 structures were lost in the massive fire, but thanks to the help of fire crews nearly 77 were saved.
The DNR said the area the the fire took place was one of the greatest hazard areas for fires that size. It was mostly due to the sandy soil and woods heavily populated by pine trees.
The Germann Road Fire was 100% contained by May 16th 2013 but it was still a while before the blaze was completely put out.
