About a dozen airmen from the 148th Fighter Wing have returned home from two weeks in Norway.
On Wednesday, we met up with Master Sgt. Megan Shaner and Sr. Master Sgt. Sterling Hartwick, who told us that it was an incredible winter warfare training experience.
“The Norwegians we worked with were top notch. They were so giving of their time and their energy, and their patience. And it was more than just teaching us tactical things. It was teaching us about who they are,” Shaner shared.
Hartwick added, “It’s amazing to be able to push yourself to the limits, and do that as a team, and support each other long the way.”
More than 100 Minnesota National Guard airmen and soldiers partnered with the Heimevernet, the Norwegian Home Guard, for the training during the 50th U.S./Norway Reciprocal Troop Exchange, Feb. 2-16, 2023.
More commonly known as NOREX, the exchange continues to be the longest-running troop exchange in the U.S. Department of Defense.
Additionally, on February 15th, Governor Tim Walz participated in the official State Partnership Program (SPP) signing ceremony in Trondheim, Norway, expanding the long-standing partnership between Minnesota and Norway’s militaries.
