The Aitkin County Sheriff’s Office has stated that there is no threat to the public after an “active threat” was reported across from McGregor High School on Thursday, January 30. A representative from the Sheriff’s office said the reports were “unfounded”.
The report did lead to the cancelation of events at the school including evening basketball games, the McGregor Athletics & Activities Facebook page stating, “Due to unforeseen circumstances all after school activities have been cancelled. This includes tonight’s basketball game vs Carlton. Parents night will be rescheduled. Thank you for your understanding.”
Emma Grover, head coach of the Carlton-Wrenshall girls basketball team, said their team arrived at McGregor High School Thursday evening to play, but were turned away by law enforcement.
“At that time, I was let back into the school to grab our players things but was informed there was an active threat across the street from the school in a church, but had moved to a vehicle,” said Grover in a post to Facebook.
The bus of players then returned to Carlton.
