The Bong Bridge reopens as authorities investigate incident
Both lanes of traffic on the Richard I. Bong Bridge were closed for a time on Thursday as authorities investigated a man having an apparent mental health crisis. According to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, authorities received multiple calls around 12:42 PM regarding a man who was seen removing pieces of clothing and darting into traffic on the Bong Bridge.
Traffic on the bridge resumed a short time later.
Law enforcement are investigating the incident and are working to locate family.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Duluth Fire Department, Duluth Police Department, Superior Police Department, US Coast Guard and the St. Louis County Rescue Squad.
