All-Star Nutrition hosts Compete for a Cure cancer fundraiser
If you were near Miller Hill Mall you might’ve saw dozens of people exercising this morning. All-Star Nutrition and Weight Loss hosted their 2nd annual Fit For Hope Charity event.
The funds raised are supporting the local non-profit Compete For A Cure. They help rehabilitate breast cancer survivors through physical fitness, but also provide grants to those who are currently battling breast cancer.
Colin Emerson, the general manager of All-Star Nutrition and Weight Loss, says they are already planning their 3rd annual Fit For Hope Charity event.
“Last year we raised $585, and this year, I don’t have the total quite yet,” Emerson said. “But I would assume we’re over a thousand, and our goal was $800. So, crushing our goal by $200, just couldn’t thank everybody enough for all this.”
Jill Pring, a breast cancer survivor, says she and other people who’ve battled cancer don’t have to endure it alone.
“I was diagnosed with breast cancer at 39. I’m currently 47, so I’ve been a survivor for quite a few years. Breast cancer is really, really hard going through treatment. What I found, was putting yourself back together after having breast cancer, was even harder,” Pring said. “Places like Compete for a Cure, offers that support. I was able to do nutrition coaching, and I’ve been able to get my physical health back.”
Also, the Founder and Executive Director of Compete for a Cure, Lindsey Marcelli, says they are always happy to help out with coordinating events to help supporting people battling breast cancer.
“We have lots of support options, whether it’s for you as a survivor, or the community that you’re a part of. However we can help connect with survivors, let us know.,” Marcelli said. “If there’s something more we can do for you, we’re all in.”
