Joe Pike, the President of the ALLETE Power Cords Toastmaster club talked about how significance of the award. “I think this award is a good recognition for our corporation overall.” Pike said. “It demonstrates that it cares and is willing to support our employees in ways that are uncommon. I think for a big corporation like ours, it shows that they’re committed to the development and leadership growth of our employees in ways that don’t necessarily always perfectly line up with current job responsibilities, but aimed towards future pathways and in our corporate structure.”
Pike also talked about how the skills from Toastmasters helped working at ALLETE Inc. as an Information Security Auditor. “Everybody has to work on public speaking, but communicating one on one is such an important skill to have.” Pike said. “Communicating virtually in this new normal after the pandemic, all of our meetings companywide are hybrid. A lot of people are working remotely from time to time and being able to communicate effectively in that virtual environment is really important as well.”
