Almost 3000 students moving back to UMD’s campus ahead of the start of the semester
Day two of moving into the dorms at UMD went smoothly, with people assigned certain time slots.
Volunteers stood at the ready with those large maroon carts, and helped bring items into the buildings.
One woman couldn’t wait to help her granddaughter get settled in. Diane Antonich lives in the Woodland neighborhood, and loves seeing the campus come to life each fall.
“Now I get the chance to move my granddaughter in, and it was such a thrill,” she told us from Mya’s room.
Mya Burgess is going to study exercise science, and is on the track team. “I’m really excited to be going somewhere familiar for college. We’d come visit Grandma in Duluth every year of my life.”
UMD said that 1800+ new students are moving back this weekend. That’s in addition to the nearly 1000 returning ones.
Morgan Peterson is another freshman. “I’m excited, but also with all the new things, it’s as little nerve-wracking,” she shared.
Her dad, Aaron Peterson, told us, “It’s bittersweet. I’m excited for her, but I”ll be sad when we drop her off.”
Step-mom Julia Peterson added, “Just take it minute by minute, we’re just so proud of these students.”
Final enrollment numbers are still being tallied.
Welcome week events run through Saturday, and classes start Monday.
