AMSOIL Snocross National return next weekend to Spirit Mountain
Many winter events were canceled this year due to the lack of snow. Although the AMSOIL Snocross National is returning next weekend to Spirit Mountain.
Kevin Nathe, a track designer with AMSOIL Snocross National said the crews are excited to work with plenty of snow.
“The mountain really helped us too with making snow. When it was cold for that week, they blew a ton of snow too. So it’s the most snow we’ve seen all year, anywhere we’ve been in the country,” Nathe said. ““A lot of our events have been barely getting into really small tracks. Snow not the best. We’ve been getting them pulled off and the racing’s been really good, but it’ll be nice to come to white snow and a lot of it.”
Even though the crews have a significant amount of snow to create the track, Nathe said safety is their top priority.
“We’ve just spent the last probably three hours or four hours just trying to get a track sketched out. Figure out where we want to be with our safety barricades and our bleachers, where they’re gonna go,” Nathe said. “So we’ve got some elevation we can use here, some up and down, which will be fun and we haven’t had that this year. So this is just a unique track for us this year.”
Nathe also said there’s plenty of people signed up to participate in the AMOSIL Snocross National.
“Sometimes at the end of the year, the racing can kind of get a little spread out. But the way everything’s kind of shook out this year everyone’s still gonna have to race up until the last day. There might be a few track design surprises too, because we have so much snow to work with.”
