Andover to meet Duluth East in 7AA Championship

In the second game of the MSHSL Boys’ Hockey Section 7AA Semifinals, #3 Grand Rapids met #2 Andover at the Amsoil Arena in Duluth on Saturday. The winner of this game will head to the Section 7AA Championship game on Thursday, March 2. It was a physical game right from the start, with no score after the first period. Senior Myles Gunderson was in the net for the Thunderhawks, and Senior Beau Altman for the Huskies.

Andover got on the board 16 seconds after the puck drop with a goal from Senior Cayden Casey with an assist from Gavyn Thoreson. Senior Cooper Conway scored with 12:16 remaining in the second period to bring the score to 0-2 Andover. Conway’s goal was from an assist by Cayden Casey and Tristen May-Robinson.

The Thunderhawks put up a fight in the second and third period, as the both teams spent time in the penalty box, but it was all Andover in the third period. Conway scored first on a power play off an assist from Thoreson and May-Robinson. Score is 0-3 Andover. Thoreson and KJ Sauer both scored bringing the score to 0-5 Andover. Conway got the assist on Thoreson’s goal and Brooks Cogswell and Anthony Pardo got the assist for Sauer’s goal at 3:28 remaining in the game.
Andover will play Duluth East in the Section 7AA Championship on Thursday, March 2 at 7:00 PM on WDIO and WDIO.com/liveplus.
