Apartment fire claims the life of Grand Rapids woman
One person was killed in a fire this morning, in a 12-unit apartment building in Grand Rapids.
The Fire and Police Departments responded just after 5:15a.m. Wednesday, to the 1400 block of SE 2nd Avenue. Crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from the front of the building on the main level.
Firefighters found the lone occupant in the living room, and pulled her out of the burning unit. Lifesaving measures were performed, but the woman was pronounced dead at the hospital.
First responders say all other occupants of the building were able to evacuate without injuries, and were able to return to their residences after the fire was extinguished.
The name of the victim is being withheld at this time.
The State Fire Marshal is helping with the investigation. The cause of the fire is listed as “undetermined” at this time.
