Art Installation event at City Hall as two wolves pop up

In the middle of the day, people who walked through Duluth City Hall got a surprise in the main rotunda. Two local artists are bringing their art into the heart of civic life. Today, Monday, 27th, they swiftly set up their colorful and interactive art exhibit at the heart of City Hall.
The show is up from 10am to 1pm, welcoming visitors of all ages to experience the vibrant and though-provoking event. Life-sized animal sculptures and an interactive art installation fill the space as the exhibit takes inspiration from the Indigenous proverb of the Two Wolves.
As self-appointed City Hall Artists in Residence, Ginger Juel and Jacklyn Janeksela are brining art to City Hall with monthly exhibits. Jacklyn shared with visitors to the exhibition the proverb of the Two Wolves.
“So, the dark wolf and the light wolf comes from a Native American proverb, and it’s a grandmother who talks to her granddaughter and says, “There are two wolves that live inside of you. One focuses on positive things and the other focuses on negative things.” And the granddaughter says, “Well, grandmother, which wolf wins?” And the grandmother says, “The one that you feed.””
Through an interactive art piece where people can write old habits and burn them away, the two of them invite people to be joyful but to also have a moment of introspection among their day-to-day life.
“Art has the power to change how we experience familiar spaces and to heal us during a positive experience,” says Juel. “We want to surprise visitors while encouraging them to reflect on their inner worlds.”
