Art teacher from Cook brings home title of Mrs. Universal Petite

Mrs. Betterley brings home Mrs. Universal Petite crown

Another pageant title for Mrs. Rachel Betterley, who's also an art teacher at North Woods.

Rachel Betterley wrapped up the school year as an art teacher at North Woods, and then headed right out on a cruise ship.

But it wasn’t a vacation. It was for the Mrs. Universal Petite pageant. And she brought home the crown!

“I met so many amazing women,” she told us.

Those women are also supporting her cause called Sketchbooks for Kids. Art supplies head out to children in rural areas who are facing trauma, abuse, neglect, or financial hardship.

“My whole mantra is that art heals. No matter where you come from, you can find healing from creative expression. Whether I’m Mrs. Betterley or Mrs. Universal Petite, art is our universal language,” she said.

The program has helped in five countries, and she hopes to reach another 10.

Another important message? “Your location does not define your dreams,” she added.
